Safety Feature Tips from Coastal Nissan

March 4th, 2010

No matter what car you’re looking for at the Boston Nissan dealer, there are a few features you should keep an eye on that can save you money when it’s time to get full insurance coverage on your new Nissan. Did you know some features of a car can earn you insurance discounts? There are several options and even some standard equipment viewed quite favorably by insurers, either because they reduce the risk of theft or accidents. Every insurance company has different standards, but ask your insurance agent what features you should look for when you hit the Coastal Nissan lot looking for new cars for your Boston driving needs.

Some insurers will give you a price break for driving a car with anti-lock brakes, also known as an ABS system. Does the new Nissan you’re driving feature dual airbags? Some insurance companies like this option, too. One popular discount is for cars with anti-theft devices, but if your favorite new Nissan model doesn’t have one, don’t pass it by for this alone—you can purchase inexpensive anti-theft equipment such as “The Club” and your insurance company may still offer the discount. Check with your agent for details, and go to your favorite Boston Nissan dealer rep with a list of features you’re interested in.

Financing Your New Car? Full Coverage Insurance Tips From Coastal Nissan

March 1st, 2010

If you’re buying a new car in Boston and want to get bank or dealer financing, you’ll be required to carry full insurance on the vehicle before you can drive it off the Boston Nissan dealer lot. Full coverage protects your investment and safeguards you in case of an accident; if you know how to shop for insurance, you can also save a bit of money in the process. Full coverage for your new Nissan means carrying the minimum liability insurance, uninsured motorist coverage where required and other protection, but it doesn’t mean paying for extras you don’t have to carry.

For example, is there a towing or roadside assistance option in the insurance package? You may be able to save some money by not choosing that coverage. Many credit card holders are already covered in this area and insurance companies don’t pay duplicate coverage claims. Do you really need that insurance on the contents of your trunk? It’s completely up to you, but if you’re trying to save money on your full coverage insurance policy, consider weeding out the options and keeping only the coverage you truly need. The new car purchase you make with your favorite Boston Nissan dealer rep is an important investment; the right insurance coverage should give you peace of mind as well.

Car Buying and Financing Tips from Costal Nissan

February 26th, 2010

New Nissan dealers have different cars and different bargains; banks and lenders are much the same when it comes to getting a new or certified used Nissan. When shopping for a car, don’t just compare prices with your new Nissan dealer rep. Compare interest rates and terms the same way you shop for the car itself.

You may rely on your current bank for an auto loan, but when was the last time you compared financing terms with your new Nissan dealer or other financial institutions in Boston? Chances are you‘ll find a more competitive interest rate—or at least find someone willing to work with you to get better terms. Any break on interest rates, down payments or the length of the loan could give you some room in your monthly car budget—more favorable terms can save you money over the lifetime of the loan that you could use to get into a better certified used Nissan.

When comparing terms before your purchase from Coastal Nissan, do the math on three important areas—the interest rate, the length of the auto loan itself, and the size of your down payment. If you can afford to make a larger down payment, do it. Can you afford to take a shorter loan? This is also a money-saver over the long term when it comes to paying interest.

Tips on Pre-Approval from Coastal Nissan

February 23rd, 2010

When shopping for a new Nissan in the Boston auto market, dealers often ask what you can afford to spend. What’s your price range for a new or certified used Nissan? You might think about what you’re actually able to afford when you look at sticker prices, but do you know the amount you actually qualify to borrow? It’s too easy to assume your credit rating is lower than it actually is, or that a few mistakes in the past might erase your chances for getting a decent auto loan from your new Nissan dealer. Don’t make these assumptions—instead, consider getting pre-approved for a loan on your next new or used vehicle.

Pre-approval means two things. The first is that you’ll know exactly what you can afford to buy based on the line of credit you’re offered. It also means that if you do have a credit problem, you can work out lending terms during the pre-approval process and still be considered for a new or used car loan in Boston. Just because you’ve had issues in the past doesn’t necessarily make you a bad risk today. Don’t rule out getting into a reliable Nissan—let the pre-approval process help you determine exactly what your buying power is.

Putting Fuel Efficiency in Perspective

February 15th, 2010

Everyone’s concerned about the rising price of gas. Often times, a vehicle’s fuel economy can be the make-or-break determining factor for potential car owners. But sometimes, the issue of fuel economy can be a red herring that scares away many people from getting the car they really need and want.

A quick trip down to your local new Nissan Boston dealership will reveal a bevy of choices, all with a broad range of fuel efficiencies. A brand new Nissan Altima will fetch in the neighborhood of 23 miles per gallon in the city, and 32 miles per gallon on the highway. Whereas a Nissan Rogue SUV brings in 21 miles per gallon city, 26 miles per gallon highway.

What it all boils down to is determining your needs. If you’re living in a climate that sees an awful lot of snow, you should ask yourself some honest questions: Is it more advantageous to save a few dollars on gas, or get an SUV that can deliver you through a Massachusetts nor’easter safe and sound? In the end, it’s all about you. Sure, fuel efficiency counts—but it shouldn’t count for everything.

Crunching Numbers: Determine What Car You Can Afford

February 10th, 2010

You don’t have to be a financial guru to make a smart decision about what kind of car to buy. And it’s never a good idea to waltz into your new Nissan dealer, or any car dealership, without at least a ballpark idea of how much money you can spend. Any ethical dealer will tell you the same. But figuring out what you can spend doesn’t require anything more than a pencil, a sheet of paper, a calculator and some common sense.

  • List your expenditures. Don’t just toss numbers around in your head. Literally write down each of your monthly financial commitments, and add them up. Remember to leave a lot of wiggle room for groceries. A new car won’t do you any good if you can’t afford to bring home any groceries.
  • Write down your income. It’s amazing, but some people don’t really know how much money they make in a month after taxes and regular expenditures—don’t be that person!
  • Crunch the numbers. Put your calculator to work, remembering to figure in additional costs like insurance, gas, registration and regular maintenance.

Once you settle on a dollar amount that you could comfortably handle, it’s time to head down to your local new Nissan Boston Massachusetts dealership and get rolling on the road to car ownership.

Important Safety Features For Your Next Boston Nissan

January 29th, 2010

As I’ve written before, Coastal Nissan takes the safety of our customers very seriously.  We believe that the more informed you are about all aspects of your vehicle purchase, especially something as important as safety, the better off you are.

We take pride in selling safe, reliable vehicles.  To help you and your family find the best Nissan for you, we’ve put together a list of important safety criteria to consider when you are deciding which vehicle to buy from our Massachusetts Nissan dealership.

Antilock Braking System (ABS): Why are antilock brakes so important to the safety of your vehicle?  Having ABS prevents your wheels from locking up when you have to slam on the brakes.  This allows you to stop quicker on slippery roads and maintain steering control of your Nissan while braking heavily.

High Crash Test Scores: This will help you determine how safe the Nissan is overall, and can be a great tool when trying to compare Nissans and any other vehicles you may be looking at.  The website safercar.gov has a comprehensive list of vehicles and their crash test scores.

Side and Curtain Airbags: These types of airbags help protect you in the case of a side-impact collision.  They are similar to regular, front airbags, but are specifically designed to protect passengers when their vehicle is impacted from the side.

There are many safety features that Nissan offers their Boston Nissan dealership customers, so visit our Coastal Nissan website for more information.  The dealer staff at Coastal Nissan is here to help you select the right one; give us a call at 800-562-9993.

Information on Alternative Fuel Types

January 25th, 2010

Over the past few years, the country has seen quite a shift towards exploring alternative fuels to power their Nissans.  Most Boston residents are trying to do their part to reduce their impact on the environment.  Coastal Nissan is no exception, so to help our customers understand what is available now (and what is coming soon), we’ve put together this brief list of the different types of alternative fuel.

Electricity: A vehicle that was powered by only electricity would need to be plugged in before being driven, but there are many hybrid cars and trucks that use both electricity and gasoline to reduce their environmental impact, and are popular at your Massachusetts Nissan dealerships.

Ethanol: Arguably the most popular in recent years, ethanol is typically made from corn.  There are vehicles sold today that can run on a gasoline/ethanol mixture.  Unfortunately, ethanol is not as fuel efficient as gasoline (you can drive further on one gallon of gas than on one gallon of ethanol), and is often more expensive.

Hydrogen: Most of the research being done about hydrogen as a fuel source is on using hydrogen fuel cells to power a car or truck.  A car running on hydrogen alone would produce no emissions, just water vapor.

We look forward to bringing you more information about alternative fuels as it comes available, and always carrying the latest auto technology at our Boston Nissan dealership.

Test Drive Tips from Coastal Nissan

January 18th, 2010

Once you’ve made a decision to buy a new or used Nissan, one of the most important steps in the purchase process is taking the vehicle out for a test drive.  This allows you to determine whether or not the Nissan you are interested in buying is the right one for your lifestyle.  I’ve put together this list of things you should take note of while test driving your next Nissan around Boston.

Before you even set foot on our Massachusetts Nissan dealership lot, you need to know what your criteria are.  This will help you determine which car or truck is right for you, since you’ll know exactly what you need.  For example, if you have kids, it might be important to have a big backseat.  If you drive a lot, good gas mileage is probably something you’ll need.

Drive the Nissan how you would once you own it.  If you drive on the highway a lot, ask if you can drive it somewhere at highway speeds.  Make sure the car or truck will fit the way you drive.

It’s important that you are comfortable while riding in and driving your potential new Nissan.  You should be able to get in and out easily, have plenty of leg and head room, the seatbelt should fit comfortably, and you need to be able to reach the controls easily.

Our Boston Nissan dealership staff conducts test drives to help make sure our customers find the right Nissan for them and their family.  Feel free to call our sales staff at 800-562-9993 or leave your contact information on our Coastal Nissan website.

Child Car Seat Safety Tips From Coastal Nissan

January 12th, 2010

Many of our Massachusetts Nissan customers have children and chauffeur them around on a daily basis.  Since so many of our customers have young children (and have their safety as their highest priority), I wanted to give a refresher on how you can help keep your kids safe by making sure you are properly using their child car seats.

Infants should be kept in a rear-facing infant seat until they are at least one year old and weigh at least twenty pounds.  Toddlers should stay in a rear-facing seat until they outgrow the height and weight requirements of their car seat in your Nissan, and then should move into a forward-facing seat with a full harness until they no longer fit.

Most school aged children should be placed in a booster seat until they fit properly into a regular seat belt, which typically happens between the ages of 8 and 12.  Even then, children under the age of 13 should sit in the back seat of your Nissan, for additional safety.

Child safety is extremely important, so if you have any questions about the proper use of child safety seats, contact our Massachusetts Nissan dealership.  You can visit our Boston Nissan website, or call us at 800-562-9993.
